Eltham Palace – London SE9
Set within tranquil moated gardens, Eltham Palace boasts a unique mix of medieval and art deco styles, making it one of London's most unusual and exceptional venues. The childhood home of Henry VIII, Eltham Palace was once an important royal palace, though of the original buildings, only the magnificent medieval Great Hall remains today.
The stunning Entrance Hall is dominated by a magnificent domed ceiling, designed to shower the room in natural daylight. The walls, lined with Australian blackbean veneer, are inlaid with finest marquetry, featuring scenes from Italy and Scandinavia. The Great Hall, which once hosted Royal banquets, today provides an impressive stately setting for larger events. It is topped by an awe-inspiring, hammerbeam oak roof, while the under floor heating, added by the Courtaulds in the 1930s, still keeps guests warm today.
