Royal Academy of Arts – London W1J
The Royal Academy has a long history as a centre of artistic excellence, being the oldest fine arts institution in Britain. We are famous for our summer exhibition and for our many major loan exhibitions, acclaimed both in Britain and overseas. In 1868 the RA moved to its present headquarters in Burlington House, one of the few surviving early-18th century mansions in London's West End. Burlington House was extensively remodelled from 1868 by Sydney Smirke RA, who added 12 exhibition galleries, a lecture room and studios. The suite of 18th century Fine Rooms can accommodate up to 450 for a reception and 100 for dinner. They have beautiful period interiors and are hung with works of art from the Collection. Guests can also have a private view the Academy’s current exhibition. During their renowned Summer Exhibition, they offer the unique opportunity to entertain in the Main Galleries, which are hung with contemporary art. The Galleries can accommodate up to 800 people for a reception and 250 for dinner. The Fine Rooms and Main Galleries are available for hire Monday to Thursday. The West Room in Burlington Gardens provides an equally elegant, but contrastingly minimalist interior, which can be customised to suit any type of event, including private parties, launches and fashion shows. The venue is available for day and evening events and can accommodate 700 guests for a reception.
