Royal Observatory (The) – London SE10

Back to list

Situated on the hill in Greenwich Royal Park, the Royal Observatory commands breathtaking views of the City of London and the River Thames. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Royal Observatory, Greenwich was built for John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal who was appointed by Charles II for the purpose of navigational research. The Octagon Room, within Flamsteed House, has changed very little since it was completed in 1676. Today the Royal Observatory is home to Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian of the world, which divides the eastern and the western hemispheres. The Royal Observatory also houses one of the finest and most fascinating collections of time-related scientific instruments in the world. The Observatory's team of astronomers and horologists can be booked for your event - to make time and the stars come to life.
